I've been collecting and selling vintage and designing jewelry for over five years now. Through building up a following online, running an e-commerce website and finally opening a small boutique in Charleston, SC my fledgling brand Candy Shop Vintage has thrived thanks to our loyal customers, old and new. Invariably, every time we do a jewelry shoot we get questions about the clothes as well. The clothes I pick for our lifestyle photo shoots are only ever meant to be a palate and backdrop for our jewelry, but I can't help but be drawn to pieces that are colorful, eye catching and whimsical. It has always been my intention to eventually expand beyond jewels, but it has taken awhile for me to gain the confidence and find the right resources to take a chance on apparel. For the first time, I am introducing a dress to the Candy Shop Vintage offerings. Like I did with my jewelry collections, I am starting small and simple. I wanted one key (and affordable), wearable clothing item that was emblematic of our dynamic brand and is both versatile and chic. It had to be something that was suited to casual styling and warm weather but also transition into party wear. Inspired by a vintage Oscar de La Renta gown (below) I once borrowed to photograph from Palm Beach Vintage our pared down version of this 1970s gem will give your wardrobe just the right touch of nostalgia.
It is available in two split sizes to begin with (XS/S sizes 0-4) and (M/L sizes 6-8) retails for $145. It can be worn over the removable slip it comes with, a bathing suit, or your favorite shapewear. Available in four colors - Dusky Blue, Turquoise, Blush and a mystery color to be released later this season. It's also washable (in a gentle, cold water wash) and will hopefully become a staple in your wardrobe and your suitcase when you travel!
